Learning Khmer
This is our textbook. Love the colours & pictures!
33 Khmer consonants. There are 2 types (Series 1 in red and Series 2 in blue).
23+ Khmer vowels. (There are other special ones that we've yet to learn).
Depending on whether they are paired with a Series 1 or Series 2 consonant, each vowel is pronounced differently. so that makes it more than 46 vowel SOUNDS (versus 20 in English)!
The "box" is where the consonant 'sits'. So as you can see, the vowel can be to the left, right, top, bottom or around the consonant!
Look who's learning Khmer as well? :)
